EverStor Introduces HIARC HSM 64-Bit Solution for Sun Solaris 8 Networks

Enterprise-Level Hierarchical Storage-Management Software Turns Automated Tape and Optical Libraries Into Shared Storage Devices; Is Completely Transparent to End Users

ANAHEIM, Calif.--July 17, 2001-- EverStor Inc. (www.everstor.com) has introduced its HIARC HSM 64-bit software for Sun Solaris 8 systems.

An enterprise-level solution for hierarchical storage management, HIARC HSM is completely transparent to end users. Using rules-based data-storage management, HIARC HSM automatically migrates infrequently accessed data from hard disks to low-cost off-line or near-line storage media.

In effect, it turns automated tape and optical libraries into shared storage devices -- and provides unlimited storage capacity and access. HIARC HSM supports all ULTRA SPARC and INTEL X86-based processors, as well as older 32-bit Sun operating systems.

"Sooner or later, every IT manager faces the problem of too much data and too little hard-disk space," said Jon Burgoyne, vice president of development for everStor. "But, increasing disk capacity can be costly and difficult to manage. Because HIARC HSM is automatic and enables the use of low-cost secondary storage, it can be a better, more economical solution. And, by reducing the amount of data on hard disks, HIARC HSM improves system performance."

HIARC HSM provides an intuitive tool for integrating off-line and near-line storage with high-availability online storage, as well as an extensive graphical user interface (GUI) and command-line ergonomics.

It also offers a grouping feature that allows multiple workgroups, within an enterprise to use and vary migration criteria for data files specific to their own needs. They can also share data from other groups that are on the same platform.

HIARC HSM supports Sun's native Solaris file system as well as Network File System (NFS) structures. It provides full, unlimited NFS storage-server capability to networks with just a client version installed, making it very cost effective.

HIARC HSM supports all major tape and optical libraries/jukeboxes, is compatible with most enterprise-wide networked backup-and-restore software packages, and has unlimited, multi-terabyte scalability. Pricing starts at $3,995 MSRP. An aggressive pricing structure is available for resellers.
